Astrid saw Tino again some days later in the same place, but apparently he hadn’t paid much attention to her this time, and she came to tell me about it very sad and disappointed.

In one way or another, I trusted that Tino would go some time to the house or the hotel to visit me, but the days passed and Tino seemed to have forgotten me. I wanted to hate him, but I couldn’t. Hating him would, in reality, have been something very simple, something that any person in my circumstance would have done, but I didn’t want to fall into a similar vulgarity. What I felt for Tino was much more than attraction, passion, desire for companionship, fascination with beauty. It was something more than that; it was, perhaps, the need to love for love’s sake.
